Best NBA DFS Picks for November 9, 2017
James Harden vs. CLE ($10.7k DraftKings, $11.2k FanDuel)
It’s almost too obvious to take Harden tonight against the worst-rated defense in the league, and right after he dropped a career-high 56 points against the fourth-ranked Jazz defense. Yet that doesn’t make it a poor decision, especially at a relatively affordable price on DK. Cleveland is hemorrhaging FPs to all positions, the backcourt in particular. The Cavs allow the most assists per game (11.27) to opposing points guards and sixth-most points per game (25) to opposing shooting guards this season. Harden plays a combination of the two: the primary scorer and facilitator for a Rockets team that’s fourth in offensive rating.
Dwyane Wade vs. NY ($4.7k DraftKings, $4.7k FanDuel)
Dwyane Wade’s price tag is simply exploitable right now since he can still fill up the box score even when he’s not longer as impactful on the actual game. He tallied three rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a steal to supplement a 10-point game on Tuesday. Now, he faces a Rockets team with two very offensive-minded guards in Harden and Eric Gordon. His playing time has dramatically increased as the Cavs realize they can’t coast throughout the entire regular season and need to find a third scoring option after LeBron James and Kevin Love.
J.J. Redick @ SAC ($4.6k DraftKings, $4.9k FanDuel)
J.J. Redick played 35 minutes in a win at Utah and is averaging 32.4 minutes per game, which is a marked jump from the 28.2 he logged with the Clippers last year. He’s more involved as a playmaker as well with a 15.4 percent assist rate. Redick draws a good matchup tonight against a Kings team ranked 22nd in opponent 3-point percentage (37.3) this season. Redick averaged 21 PPG on 52.6 percent shooting over three meetings with Sacramento last year and comes into this contest 11-for-19 from deep in his last two games.
Others to Consider: Russell Westbrook, DeMar DeRozan, Eric Gordon, De’Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
LeBron James @ HOU ($10.8k DraftKings, $11.8k FanDuel)
At $600 cheaper on DK than he was on Tuesday night, LeBron James is an easy choice to pair with James Harden in a superstar stack. With a 228-point over/under and the Rockets slightly favored (-5), this is a contest to target on both sides of the ball. Even though Houston has posted a much better defensive rating, the Rockets still have no answer for King James, just like the rest of the NBA. James’ improved post game will make it brutal for skinny Trevor Ariza. Despite the Cavs’ overall struggles, LeBron has been transcendent with a career-best .673% true shooting percentage and 45.8 percent assist rate.
Ben Simmons @ SAC ($9.0k DraftKings, $9.9k FanDuel)
There are only five games on this slate tonight obviously, and only two that really beg to be targeted in DFS. Namely, the Sixers’ big names are appealing against a Kings team that’s been brutal on both sides of the ball this year. Sacramento gives up the seventh-most assists per game (9.10) to opposing point guards this season, and Simmons is running the show for Philly with a 36.1 percent assist rate. He’s an excellent rebounder with his seven-foot wingspan, and the defensive stats are starting to come for Simmons, who has topped 51 DK points in four of his last five outings.
Ryan Anderson vs. CLE ($4.4k DraftKings, $4.3k FanDuel)
You can target the Cavs’ defense with studs and values without getting disappointed too often. It’s ranked 30th in defensive rating but third in offensive rating to produce games with tons of DFS goodness. Cleveland has coughed up the most 3-pointers per game (13.4) at the highest percentage (41.9 percent) this season. Anderson is a sharpshooter posting the best effective FG percentage (.590 percent) of his career right now. He matches up well against Kevin Love and the small-ball Cavs, so he should get a full slate of minutes tonight.
Others to Consider: Anthony Davis, Kevin Love, Carmelo Anthony, Kyle Kuzma, Robert Covington, Markieff Morris
Nikola Jokic vs. OKC ($8.6k DraftKings, $10.0k FanDuel)
For upside tonight, it comes down to Joel Embiid ($8.0k, $9.6k) or Nikola Jokic, who is somehow cheaper on DK than he was on Tuesday after posting a monstrous line with a career-high 41 points against the Nets. Oklahoma City is a far superior defensive club, but Jokic averaged 19.7 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 5.3 assists over three meetings against slower center Steven Adams last year. It took a couple of weeks for him to gel with new frontcourt mate Paul Millsap, but “The Joker” seems to be hitting his stride as the point center of a very good offensive club.
Others to Consider: Joel Embiid, Clint Capela, Jonas Valanciunas
