DraftKings.com NFL DFS Week 14 Picks and Plays for Cash Game and GPP Lineups

Draftkings Week 14 of NFL DFS is here, and everyone is looking to play for the big daily fantasy football money up for grabs this weekend. Every week, we’ll bring you our top NFL DFS picks at each position, separating them into Cash and GPP plays. And to keep up with all things DFSReportfollow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook.

As with any daily fantasy sport, the advice below is relevant for fantasy purposes. A player or team might be better or worse from a fantasy perspective than in real life due to matchup, price, gameflow, and various other factors. This is important to remember when constructing a roster at any of the daily fantasy sports sites.

Weather will play a key factor in NFL games going forward, so make sure to check the forecast for each Sunday. Wind is our real enemy there.

Best Week 14 NFL DFS Quarterback Plays

Philip Rivers vs. WAS ($6.8K DraftKings) – Cash
The Los Angeles Chargers are, all of a sudden, legitimate contenders to win the AFC West, what with how badly the Chiefs are currently imploding. And Philip Rivers is very much a key reason L.A. is tied for first in the division. In just the past two weeks, the veteran QB has thrown for 778 yards and four touchdowns. Now, the Chargers have won three straight, while the Chiefs have lost four straight. This week, at home against Washington, Rivers gets a defense that shut down Dak Prescott last week from a yardage perspective but still allowed the struggling Dallas QB to throw for two scores.

While Rivers isn’t matchup-proof, and Washington middle-of-the-pack in passing DVOA, he is a consistent player at this stage in his career. Even against a stout Jaguars secondary, he managed two touchdowns on 235 yards. While I don’t see a ton of upside this week, he has his pass-catching backs and top target Keenan Allen. He’ll get the job done, even at a price creeping ever-so-close to the $7K mark.

Alex Smith vs. OAK ($6.5K DraftKings) – GPP/Cash
Last week, Alex Smith exploded for 366 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, a tough 70-yard run, and zero turnovers in a game the Kansas City Chiefs had no business losing. Yet here we are in Week 14, and any hopes of a Super Bowl run seem all but out the window after another disappointing loss. Having lost four in a row and five of their last six, the Chiefs went from an AFC West championship lock to a first place tie with the streaking L.A. Chargers and the mediocre Raiders.

While Smith looked great in his last outing, you can’t expect this kind of output from him on a consistent basis. As such, I don’t think there will be a ton of players flocking to him, since his name has always carried a negative connotation in fantasy sports. This makes him a leading candidate on my GPP shortlist, as Smith has flashed great upside on four occasions this season, including the last time he played Oakland and put up 342 yards and three passing touchdowns. Consider the captain of this sinking ship a strong GPP option.

Derek Carr @ KC ($6.4K DraftKings) – GPP
On the other side of the ball, we have Derek Carr, who is very much not a veteran but is on a team struggling to keep its playoff hopes alive. While the Raiders have won two straight, Carr caught some luck last week when the Giants dropped two would-be interceptions. This week, Carr gets a reeling Chiefs team in a borderline must-win. The Chiefs rank 20th in passing DVOA, and when they played earlier this year, Carr dropped 417 yards and three touchdowns on the Chiefs’ secondary. This game has shootout potential, and I’m not sure anyone stands to benefit quite as much as Carr.

Jameis Winston vs. DET ($5.9K DraftKings) – GPP
The Buccaneers’ QB looked OK last week after missing extended time due to a shoulder injury, throwing for two scores and 270 yards against the Green Bay Packers. This week, the Detroit Lions head to Tampa for a conference showdown, but their 14th-ranked in passing DVOA is deceptive. Detroit allowed Case Keenum and Joe Flacco each to throw two passing touchdowns in the past two weeks. Winston has more upside than either of those guys, and he’s got a better receiver than either in Mike Evans. While the majority of players will likely flock to the AFC West QBs, Winston comes in slightly cheaper than Smith, Rivers, and Carr. He’s capable of matching all three of those guys in terms of upside. In his last home win, Winston torched the Giants for 332 yards and three touchdowns.

Secondary options: Carson Wentz, Tom Brady

Best Week 14 NFL DFS Running Back Plays

Alfred Morris @ NYG ($5.5K DraftKings) – GPP/Cash
Alfred Morris finally got things going last week, with 127 rushing yards and a score on a whopping 27 carries. The Giants rank 25th in rushing DVOA and are home underdogs on Sunday. With Dak Prescott’s throwing struggles, Jason Garrett will almost certainly look to establish and then rely on the run in this one. What’s more, Garrett has never shied away from pounding the rock with his lead back (what’s up, DeMarco Murray?). As such, Morris has legitimate carry-upside in the mid-20s.

Giovani Bernard vs. CHI ($3.1K DraftKings) – GPP/Cash
A near lock in Cash games, Gio Bernard is expected to carry the workload this week for Cincinnati. Joe Mixon is working through concussion protocol on a short week. Bernard took over for the rookie back this past Monday night, racking up 77 rushing yards on 13 carries and adding three catches for a total of 11.6 DK points. However, he didn’t see full-game action (which he will this week). Cincinnati really should control every aspect of this Bears matchup, and Bernard’s pass-catching ability makes him extremely appealing in all formats, especially at just $3.1K.

Jay Ajayi @ LAR ($4.5K DraftKings) – GPP
Once the lead back in Miami, Jay Ajayi is in a bit of a confusing spot in Philly. Last week, LeGarrette Blount reemerged with early work, but Ajayi got his looks, finishing with nine carries and four targets (compared to Blount’s eight carries). The timeshare will scare almost everyone off Ajayi, but at just $4.5K, and coming off a game in which the Eagles were behind and couldn’t run, he’s in a perfect buy-low spot. The Rams rank 19th in rushing DVOA and are much better against the pass. Ajayi will be a vital cog in this Philly offense, as it attempts to keep pace with a Rams offense that can run and gun with the best of them.

Kareem Hunt vs. OAK ($6.5K DraftKings) – GPP
Once a mortal lock for ROTY, Hunt has fallen off the face of the earth. But at just $6.5K and facing an Oakland defense ranked 21st in rushing DVOA, his upside is difficult to pass up. Look, the Chiefs are falling to pieces and just can’t seem to get Hunt going as of late. Last week, he saw just nine carries. However, his targets increased to five, which is a good sign. This week, in a potential shootout with Oakland, Hunt has appeal for his big-play ability and potential work in the passing game. There isn’t a ton of quantitative support for this play, but the fast-paced nature of this game should lend itself to Hunt’s abilities.

Secondary options: Austin Ekeler, Theo Riddick, LeSean McCoy, Jordan Howard, Peyton Barber, Andre Ellington, Mike Davis, Melvin Gordon

Best Week 14 NFL DFS Wide Receiver Plays

Trent Taylor @ HOU ($3.3K DraftKings) – GPP
The Texans have lost a lot on the defensive side this season, which hasn’t helped their already hit-or-miss secondary. While they can cover well at times, they are exploitable thanks to the likes of Kareem Jackson. With Jimmy Garoppolo now the starting quarterback in San Francisco, Trent Taylor immediately becomes an appealing GPP option. Last week, he saw and caught six targets for 92 yards. There is little reason to think that workload doesn’t stay flat week-over-week. As Houston struggles against WR2 (30th in WR2 DVOA), Taylor should be able to turn his somewhat modest workload into fantasy gold at his salary.

Josh Gordon vs. GB ($5.5K DraftKings) – GPP
Eleven. That’s how many targets greeted Josh Gordon upon his return to the football field. And there’s no reason to think the hapless Browns don’t continue their high-volume push toward their top wideout. Green Bay is 30th in WR1 DVOA, and Gordon, even with time missed, is operating like a WR1. Hue Jackson wants to get him the ball as much as possible, it seems. After all, the Browns have nothing better to do. There’s a long list of reasons to like Gordon in spite of all the time he has missed. Against an exploitable Packers secondary, we could see a flash of that wideout we had the privilege of watching dominate the league a few years back.

Tyreek Hill vs. OAK ($7.1K DraftKings) – Cash/GPP
Tyreek Hill will be chalky after dropping nearly 40 DK points last week. His six receptions for 185 yards and two touchdowns was quite the performance. This week, against an Oakland defense ranked 31st in WR1 DVOA, Hill’s athleticism should be at the forefront of this Kansas City offense. He has all the physical attributes to put up a big game, and the shootout potential in this divisional matchup is hard to pass up. Roster Hill where you can, but specifically in GPP where he boasts as high an upside as any receiver on this slate.

Marqise Lee vs. SEA ($5.5K DraftKings) – GPP
Even as the top wideout in Jacksonville and coming off a week where he scored 21.6 DK points, Marqise Lee seems rather underpriced. While the Seattle Seahawks will scare off most novice players, they’re so injury-riddled that I don’t think they’ll be able to contain Lee for all 60 minutes. While the Seahawks did shut down Philly from a scoring standpoint last week, they allowed Carson Wentz to throw for 348 yards, and let Nelson Agholor to have a career game. At $5.5K, Lee is a strong mid-range play as he’s seen at double-digit targets in three of the past five games

Secondary options: Cooper Kupp, Terrance Williams, Emmanuel Sanders, Golden Tate, DeAndre Hopkins, Mike Evans

Best Week 14 NFL DFS Tight End Plays

Cameron Brate vs. DET ($4.1K DraftKings) – GPP/Cash
The Detroit Lions have a pretty solid defense, ranking 19th in DVOA but second-to-last in TE DVOA. That leaves them highly susceptible against the Winston-Brate connection, which was on full display last week when the two connected on two touchdown passes. Outside of Mike Evans, Brate is Winston’s go-to receiver. The lopsided matchup with a defense that struggles against TEs should lead to another strong outing from Brate. He has consistently reached double-digit scoring this season with Winston at the helm.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins vs. NYJ ($3.6K DraftKings) – GPP
Austin Seferian-Jenkins disappeared last week with just two receptions. This wouldn’t be a huge concern except for the fact that he also only managed two receptions in the game prior. That should leave him terribly under-owned this week against a Broncos defense that has long struggled to stop the tight end position. Look for Seferian-Jenkins to take advantage of the defense ranking 23rd in TE DVOA. Denver has allowed a touchdown to opposing tight ends in three of their last four games.

Secondary options: Charles Clay, Eric Ebron, Tyler Kroft, Jack Doyle, Vernon Davis

Best Week 14 NFL DFS Defense Plays

Cincinnati Bengals D/ST vs. CHI ($3.3K DraftKings) – GPP/Cash
The Chicago Bears have an implied team scoring total of 15.5 for Sunday, which gives this Bengals’ defense a pretty terrific floor. As home favorites, Cincy should be able to stick to the run game and ideally force Chicago to throw with a rookie QB who has essentially no weapons. The Bengals are about as good against the run as the pass (middle of the pack, 16th overall in DVOA), so it’s imperative they get out to an early lead to force Chicago away from a Jordan Howard-first approach. With Chicago’s season basically done, I like the chances that this Cincy team controls on the defensive end and forces a few turnovers as a result of pressure on Mitch Trubisky.

Green Bay Packers D/ST @ CLE ($3.7K DraftKings) – GPP
There isn’t much to smile about in Green Bay this season, but Aaron Rodgers is apparently nearing his return. The Packers are still in the playoff hunt, and it would do wonders for them to buy some time for Rodgers return with a win over the lowly Cleveland Browns this week. With that added motivation, I expect Green Bay to seal a home win by forcing multiple turnovers against DeShone Kizer, who had a 47 percent completion rate last week and has also been sacked at least three times in his past three outings.

Secondary Options: Minnesota Vikings D/ST, Buffalo Bills D/ST, Jacksonville Jaguars D/ST
