Best NBA DFS Picks for February 5, 2018

Guards

Bradley Beal @ IND ($8.9k DraftKings, $8.4k FanDuel)
After outproducing James Harden at a much lower price on Saturday night, Bradley Beal remains an elite cash play and one of the best guards you can target in any format tonight. With John Wall (knee) out, Beal’s taken on a bigger role as a facilitator. At the same time, he maintains his lofty usage rate as a shooter. He’s facing a Pacers team that allows the most 3PT attempts (30.9) per game and ranks 27th in opponent 2PT shooting percentage (.533) this season and could be without starting SG Victor Oladipo (illness). Beal’s actually cheaper than Saturday despite producing a well-rounded line in his last outing. Along with backup PG Tomas Satoransky ($5.0k, $5.6k), consider Beal as the primary beneficiary of Wall’s absence.

Ricky Rubio @ NO ($6.5k DraftKings, $7.0k FanDuel)
Seemingly invigorated in a blowout win over the Warriors last Tuesday, Ricky Rubio continued his torrid run with a stunning 34-point game against the elite Spurs defense Saturday. He’s now averaging 19.2 PPG, 6.0 RPG, and 8.0 APG over his last five appearances. Tonight, Rubio faces a Pelicans team tonight that gives up the second-most PPG (110.7) overall and fifth-most PPG (24.46) to opposing PGs over the last month. Utah super rookie Donovan Mitchell (illness) is questionable tonight, and Rodney Hood (leg) has been out for a few games. Thus, Rubio should continue to log big minutes in this plus matchup.

Zach LaVine @ SAC ($6.6k DraftKings, $7.4k FanDuel)
Despite playing under a minutes restriction, Zach LaVine has been incredibly productive this season, so it’s only logical to target him once he gets closer to a full slate of playing time. The budding young star logged a season-high 31 minutes in a loss to the Clippers Saturday and might have played more if not whistled for five personal fouls. LaVine is averaging 22.5 points, 7.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists per 36 minutes this season and could see 30-plus minutes of run once again as the Bulls face a Kings team that ranks 29th in defensive rating.

Others to Consider: Damian Lillard, Jrue Holiday, Goran Dragic, Zach LaVine, Jamal Murray, De’Aaron Fox, Ish Smith, Tyrone Wallace

Nic Batum @ DEN ($6.7k DraftKings, $6.8k FanDuel)
He’s battled an elbow injury throughout most of the season, but Nic Batum seems to be turning a corner. The versatile forward is averaging 21.3 PPG, 7.0 RPG, and 4.8 APG over his last four appearances with a triple-double mixed in. Tonight, he draws an appealing matchup tonight against the high-scoring Nuggets. Denver gives up the fifth-most APG (24.5) and sixth-most SPG (8.2) this season, which plays right into the hands of a Swiss Army Knife in Batum, who doesn’t necessarily need a high usage rate to exceed value in DFS contests.

Nikola Mirotic @ UTA ($5.8k DraftKings, $7.5k FanDuel)
Fresh off a stellar performance with 18 points and 12 rebounds over 35 minutes in his Pelicans debut, Nikola Mirotic makes for a great mid-tier option on DK tonight. He draws a tough matchup against Utah’s stout interior defense, but the Jazz rank 27th in opponent 3PT shooting percentage (.373) this season. Plus, Derrick Favors is far too slow of a PF to handle Mirotic. No longer competing for minutes with Chicago’s promising young PFs, Mirotic will be free to fire as a compliment to Anthony Davis.

Stanley Johnson vs. POR ($4.8k DraftKings, $5.7k FanDuel)
Now that the Pistons have moved on from Avery Bradley and Tobias Harris, a healthy slate of minutes is almost guaranteed for Stanley Johnson. That’s especially true in matchups against athletic teams like the Blazers. Portland’s playing with a lot more pace in 2018 and allowing 111.6 PPG over their last 17 contests as a result. Meanwhile, Johnson’s averaging 16.8 PPG and 6.0 RPG over his last four appearances. His playing time has spiked since the Blake Griffin trade with 110 minutes of run over his last three outings.

Lance Stephenson vs. WAS ($4.8k DraftKings, $4.4k FanDuel)
Lance Stephenson continues to flash upside in the right matchups and he should thrive against a shorthanded Wizards team tonight. “Born Ready” is posting much better averages (10.9 PPG, 6.2 RPG, 3.2 APG) at home this season, and the Wizards are giving up the sixth-most RPPG (44.34) and third-most PPG (23.75) to opposing SFs over the last month. At a modest price tag, Stephenson is worth a look in GPP formats this evening.

Others to Consider: Anthony Davis, Blake Griffin, Bobby Portis, Domantas Sabonis, Markieff Morris, Montrezl Harrell, Anthony Tolliver

Center

Nikola Jokic vs. CHA ($8.7k DraftKings, $9.9k FanDuel)
Most centers would be a tough sell against a resurgent Dwight Howard, who is anchoring the Hornets’ defense this year. Yet Nikola Jokic is able to produce FPs in so many different ways. Unlike most big men, he doesn’t need to score his points in the paint. He’s shooting a career-best 34 percent from 3PT range and has obviously been hot lately with averages of 19.0 PPG, 10.5 RPG, and 8.8 APG over his last six appearances. Under priced on DK as a legitimate triple-double threat, Jokic should improve on the 18 points and 12 rebounds he produced in a meeting with the Hornets earlier this season. What’s more, he flukily failed to record a single assist in that contest. The absence of Mason Plumlee (calf) seriously enhances Jokic’s floor-ceiling combination as well.

Kelly Olynyk vs. ORL ($5.2k DraftKings, $5.1k FanDuel)
Hassan Whiteside (illness) has a chance to return tonight after missing Saturday’s game, but Kelly Olynyk would have some appeal regardless against a shorthanded Magic frontline. Orlando’s been forced to give offensive specialist Marreese Speights extensive run along with inexperienced PFs since Aaron Gordon (hip) has been out, and Nikola Vucecic (hand) is still out too. Olynyk, who boasts a 23.7 percent usage rate and averages 1.01 FPs per minute when Whiteside is off the floor this season, has produced double-digit points in 11 consecutive appearances. He logged a whopping 40 minutes with Whiteside out on Saturday. His upside will seriously diminish if Whiteside plays, but he’s cheap enough to warrant consideration either way.

Others to Consider: Andre Drummond, Dwight Howard, Willie Cauley-Stein, Marreese Speights
