Best NBA DFS Picks for February 9, 2018

Guards

Jimmy Butler @ CHI ($9.6k DraftKings, $9.8k FanDuel)
Lost in the shuffle of LeBron’s incredible performance Wednesday to down the Wolves in overtime was another great game from Butler. He’s now averaging 26.4 PPG while scoring 21-plus points in nine consecutive appearances. Of course, he’s filling up the box score with plenty of assists, rebounds, and defensive stats as well. He’ll bring some added motivation into his first meeting appearance in Chicago as an opponent. The last-placed Bulls are ill-equipped to contain him with Kris Dunn (concussion) still on the shelf. They’ve been an easy target all year, giving up the sixth-most PPG (109.2) and fourth-most RPG (46) this season.

Jrue Holiday @ PHI ($7.8k DraftKings, $7.6k FanDuel)
It’s been some time since Jrue Holiday left Philadelphia, so it’s hard to call this a revenge game, but he’s at least very familiar with the Wells Fargo Center and its baskets. This is also a great matchup and a premium game to target with the No. 8 offense hosting the No. 4 offense in the Pelicans, who also happen to give up the second-most PPG (111.1) this year. With Boogie Cousins off the floor, Holiday sees a notable 6.8 percent rise in usage rate (to 30.1). His assist numbers have climbed recently as well.

Jerian Grant vs. MIN ($5.0k DraftKings, $5.2k FanDuel)
Minnesota has been a disaster defensively of late to the chagrin of HC Tom Thibodeau. The Wolves are giving up the second-most APG (10.43) and fifth-most FPPG (49.84) to opposing PGs over the last month. Thus, Jerian Grant is worth a look even if he’s not the most talented floor general in the league. Jeff Teague ($5.9k, $6.1k) is also worth using given how he and Isaiah Thomas played matador defense throughout Wednesday’s shootout. Both these Minnesota PGs are quite cheap. Zach LaVine ($6.1k, $7.2k) is also worth a look in a revenge game, even though he will have to contend with Jimmy Butler at times.

Others to Consider: James Harden, Ricky Rubio, Dennis Schroder, Jamal Murray, Zach LaVine, J.J. Redick, Bojan Bogdanovic, Cory Joseph

LeBron James @ ATL ($12.1k DraftKings, $11.5k FanDuel)
Now that he’s adjusted his roster at the trade deadline, LeBron James has no excuses for dogging it out there. New acquisitions Jordan Clarkson and Rodney Hood might not be cleared to play just one day after their trades, so LeBron will have to play plenty of point forward on the heels of his impressive 15-assist performance in Minnesota. He completed that night with 37 points and a buzzer beater over 48 minutes. He’s incredibly pricey on DK, but if we see LBJ out there for 40-plus minutes for at least one more game, he could pay off as a worthwhile GPP play. Atlanta certainly has no answers for “The King” on the defensive end. They allow the third-most FPPG to opposing SFs (43.53) this season.

Tobias Harris @ DET ($6.7k DraftKings, $7.1k FanDuel)
We’ve got revenge games all over the place on tonight’s slate. Tobias Harris makes an immediate return to Detroit after getting dealt to the Clippers a week ago. He provided automatic offense for his new squad with 43 points over two games and has certainly been given the green light by HC Doc Rivers. He netted those points on 39 attempts. The Pistons are an inferior defensive team without Harris or Avery Bradley on the roster, and the former should roll through notably smaller wings Stanley Johnson and Reggie Bullock. Meanwhile, he’ll try and stop Blake Griffin from winning his own revenge game.

Lauri Markkanen vs. MIN ($6.7k DraftKings, $6.4k FanDuel)
Lauri Markkanen returns to a very favorable situation with Nikola Mirotic out of town and the Bulls starved for offensive options since Kris Dunn (concussion) went down. The rookie was having a great year before missing a couple weeks to attend to a personal matter. He’s rocking a 22.9 percent usage rate and averaging 1.01 FPs per minute when Mirotic and Dunn are off the floor this season. Minnesota’s Taj Gibson is tough to beat down low but struggles to guard on the perimeter. That’s where Markkanen excels when shooting 3s or pump-faking to blow by slower defenders.

Domantas Sabonis @ BOS ($5.0k DraftKings, $4.9k FanDuel)
Even when Myles Turner is active (which has been rare this season), Domantas Sabonis retains value. He leads the Pacers by far in RPG (8.2), and the Celtics have struggled on the boards at times. Boston gives up the fifth-most RPG (44) this season, and Sabonis produced 35 points with 14 boards over two close losses to the C’s earlier this year. He’s as cheap as he’s been on DK since he broke out when Turner was inactive a couple months ago. Sabonis makes for a cost-effective option in Cash games.

Others to Consider: Blake Griffin, Ben Simmons, Dario Saric, Zach Randolph, Stanley Johnson, Joe Ingles, Gerald Green

Center

Nikola Jokic @ HOU ($8.9k DraftKings, $9.9k FanDuel)
Anthony Davis is astronomically expensive and could cancel out production with Joel Embiid in a heavyweight bout tonight. But Nikola Jokic remains reasonably priced on DK in a much easier matchup. Houston is giving up the 10th-most FPPG (54.15) to opposing centers over the last month and represents a good matchup for “The Joker” with the inexperienced Clint Capela or slow-footed Nene serving as the only defensive options down low. He was struggling earlier this season when Denver got blown out by 30 in Houston but is clearly rolling now with averages of 18.4 PPG, 11.2 RPG, and 8.6 APG over his last seven appearances.

Hassan Whiteside vs. MIL ($7.4k DraftKings, $7.6k FanDuel)
Coming off two consecutive double-doubles, Hassan Whiteside is probably the best per-dollar option on DK ahead of a juicy matchup against a Bucks team that can’t guard big men. He logged 33 minutes in a narrow loss to Houston Wednesday, so he’s clearly healthy and playing more out of necessity with Kelly Olynyk (shoulder) on the shelf. The Bucks allow the most PPG (24.9) and fourth-most FPPG (54.16) to opposing centers this season, giving up a monstrous 27-points, 14-rebound, six-block performance in Milwaukee the last time they faced Mr. Whiteside. To make matters worse for the Bucks, starting center John Henson (hamstring) is questionable after missing Wednesday’s contest.

Others to Consider: Anthony Davis, DeAndre Jordan, Jusuf Nurkic, Bobby Portis, Tristan Thompson
