Best NBA DFS Picks for February 13, 2018
Chris Paul @ MIN ($9.1k DraftKings, $9.6k FanDuel)
Jimmy Butler is worthy of the utmost respect as a defender. That’s primarily the reason to fade James Harden tonight despite the overall great matchup at Minnesota. You can still get exposure to this potential shootout by using Chris Paul. He’ll face off with weak defender Jeff Teague and a Wolves team allowing the third-most PPG (25.29) and fourth-most FPPG (50.99) to opposing PGs over the last month. Minnesota also allows the third-most APG (24.1) overall. Currently, Paul is crushing it in that regard with a 43 percent assist rate this year.
De’Aaron Fox @ DAL ($6.3k DraftKings, $6.0k FanDuel)
Mavericks guard Dennis Smith Jr. is coming off a big game Sunday, but his production should dip with Dirk Nowitzki (ankle), Wes Matthews (rest), and J.J. Barea (rest) all capable of returning for tonight’s tilt. The defensive prowess of De’Aaron Fox also lowers Smith’s appeal. Plus, the Kings rookie is finding his own stride offensively. Fox is averaging 14.2 PPG and 4.9 APG since Jan. 1, and his playing time is far more secure with George Hill traded and Frank Mason III (heel) on the shelf. Dallas is allowing the fourth-most PPG (25.17) to opposing PGs over the last month. Sacramento’s been porous against the position as well, so perhaps you could use both Fox and Dennis Smith Jr. ($7.3k, $7.4k) in GPP formats as correlation plays.
Jordan Clarkson @ OKC ($5.1k DraftKings, $5.9k FanDuel)
In retrospect, the centerpiece of the Cavs wheeling and dealing at the trade deadline could be Jordan Clarkson. His athleticism and versatility in the backcourt are extremely crucial in today’s NBA. No longer blocked by Lonzo Ball, he should log plenty of run tonight in an effort to contain Russell Westbrook (ankle), provided Westy can go. Clarkson provided 17 points over 23 minutes in his Cavs debut Sunday and will likely see more time as he grows more comfortable within the offense. A capable scorer who can play on or off the ball, he should fit in around LeBron James sooner rather than later.
Others to Consider: Russell Westbrook, DeMar DeRozan, Dennis Smith Jr., Eric Bledsoe, Wesley Matthews, Danny Green, Rodney Hood
Giannis Antetokounmpo vs. ATL ($10.7k DraftKings, $11.8k FanDuel)
He’s a tough cover for most teams, but Giannis Antetokounmpo represents a nightmarish matchup for this young Hawks team. Atlanta ranks 26th in defensive rating this year and coughs up the second-most FPPG (43.79) to opposing SFs over the last month. Giannis torched the Hawks for 33 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists in a previous meeting this season. He comes into this contest typically hot with averages of 26 PPG, 9.0 RPG, and 4.7 APG over his last three appearances. At a relatively modest price tag on DK, Giannis could be the contrarian play as others chase the recent surge in production from Paul George or the tantalizing upside of LeBron James (who is probably more appealing on FD based on price).
Dwight Powell vs. SAC ($5.5k DraftKings, $6.7k FanDuel)
Of the Mavericks questionable to suit up tonight, Dirk Nowitzki (ankle) could return tonight, but his potential absence or limitations would benefit Dwight Powell. The Canadian has been producing regardless with averages of 16 PPG and 8.8 RPG over his last five appearances. Thus, he’s worth a look for some salary relief and a position otherwise devoid of values. Sacramento is a poor rebounding team that gives up the fifth-most FPPG (53.72) and second-most RPG (16.64) to opposing centers this year, a position that Powell occupies more often than not for Dallas.
Davis Bertans @ DEN ($4.8k DraftKings, $5.0k FanDuel)
Speaking of values, Davis Bertans stands to see plenty of run after a solid showing last night against Utah. With LaMarcus Aldridge (knee) ruled out and San Antonio on the second half of a B2B set, we could see more ailing Spurs sit. This includes Tony Parker (back), Pau Gasol, and potentially Dejounte Murray (ankle). If any of those players are out, Kyle Anderson ($5.8k, $6.0k) would also see a boost in what should be a high-scoring affair at Denver. The Nuggets allow the 10th-most FPPG (47.25) and third-most APG (3.84) to opposing PFs over the last month. Bertans has developed as a scorer and facilitator within the Spurs’ efficient offense.
Others to Consider: LeBron James, Jimmy Butler, Zach Randolph, Kyle Anderson, Jerami Grant, Taurean Prince, Wilson Chandler
Karl-Anthony Towns vs. HOU ($9.2k DraftKings, $9.4k FanDuel)
This is a premier game to target tonight. The third-rated Wolves offense hosts a Rockets team that leads the league in offensive rating. Karl-Anthony Towns should carry the load offensively for Minnesota while Jimmy Butler looks to slow down James Harden on the other end. KAT can certainly produce against the skinnier Clint Capela. Towns produced 22 points and 16 boards in a meeting with Houston this year after averaging an impressive 32.3 PPG and 19.3 RPG (his highest total against any team) over four meetings with the Rockets last season. The Minnesota big man’s home/road splits are notable once again. He’s shooting a scorching 45.3 percent from downtown while averaging 22 PPG at home this season.
Dewayne Dedmon @ MIL ($5.3k DraftKings, $5.8k FanDuel)
After posting a surprising line with 20 points and 13 boards over 31 minutes in a win over Detroit, it’s apparent that Dewayne Dedmon is nearly fully recovered from the hairline fracture in his leg that derailed his season. The big man provides a valuable presence in the middle for Atlanta. That’s something Milwaukee is still missing. It could end up even worse for them if John Henson (hamstring) can’t suit up tonight. The Bucks are allowing the most PPG (24.49) and third-most RPG (16.3) to opposing centers this season, so Dedmon has some upside as he looks for an encore effort.
Others to Consider: Nikola Jokic, Hassan Whiteside, Willie Cauley-Stein, Pau Gasol
