Happy Saturday everyone! I am switching up the day’s article once again, with this one focusing on guaranteed-prize-pool tournament (GPP) plays. Typically, these plays will have high upside with a chance to propel you to the top of the tournament leader board and take home some big money. Each position will have my top GPP play with analysis, as well as a “Turn Two” play, as another option you can “turn two” if you’re not sold on my original selection. Clever name, right? 🙂 Enjoy the article 🙂
Chris Archer (DK: $11,800, FD: $10,500): Archer’s scored 38+ fantasy points on DK and 20+ on FD in his last 3 starts. His price will drive his ownership percentage down on DK. Chicago hasn’t been terrible vs. RHP this year but they certainly haven’t been great either. I’m riding the Archer train today.
Tyler Lyons (DK: $5,300 FD: $5,800): Not paying up for two of the big guns today? Tyler Lyons might be a sneaky play that will allow you to load up on a top pitching option and several big bats. He’s compiled 17 K’s in his 3 MLB starts this season. There is reason to approach these numbers with caution as his career K/9 rate is only at 8.42, but maybe he’s figured something out. He’s definitely worth a shot in GPP’s today and will hardly put a dent in your salary cap.
Turn Two: Jacob deGrom (DK: $10,500 FD: $10,600)
Salvador Perez: (DK: $3,500 FD: $2,700): If you’re playing on FanDuel today, I expect a lot of people to be on Evan Gattis who is still catcher-eligible. Those on DraftKings will have to look elsewhere, and I think Perez is your man. When Perez first came up, he absolutely destroyed LHP and while he’s regressed a bit, he’s still hit them a nice clip at .304. His .196 ISO (isolated power) says good things about his chances to hit one for extra-bases today which hopefully will be a round-tripper. LHP rookie, Tyler Lyons has allowed all 6 of his HR’s to RHB between his 48.1 IP in Memphis and 13 IP with the Cards.
Turn Two: Nick Hundley (DK: $3,200 FD: $2,500)
Miguel Cabrera: (DK: $4,800 FD: $4,800): Cabrera’s price (especially on FD) should certainly drive his ownership level down. Here’s a fun one: Cabrera is batting .358 / .430 / .634 with 38 HR’s in 136 career games vs. the Indians. He went deep vs. Salazar Friday night and will face off against another hard-throwing RHP in Carrasco– who he’s 8/21 against with a homer. I like Miggy to homer again today but you’ll certainly have to pay up for him.
Turn Two: Pedro Alvarez (DK: $4,200 FD: $2,800) –> .340 / .459 / .740 in day games
Kolten Wong: (DK: $4,000 FD: $3,200): Wong always seems to go under the radar in DFS and today will probably be more of the same. He’s having a great season thus far and is excelling vs. RHP with a .364 wOBA and .186 ISO. Wong is the total package at 2B and I love him as a GPP play today against RHP Jeremy Guthrie.
Turn Two: Neil Walker (DK: $4,100 FD: $2,700)
Carlos Santana (DK ONLY: $4,100): The lack of 3B-eligible players on both sites contributed to this pick being a DK only play, as Santana is only eligible for 1B on FanDuel. Justin Verlander returns today for the Tigers and Santana is hoping that will break him out of his slump. Santana is only 9/44 (.205) vs. Verlander BUT 5 of those 9 hits were HR’s. We’re chasing homers in GPP’s and Santana has a decent shot and should be under-owned.
Turn Two: Anthony Rendon (DK: $4,300 FD: $3,400)
Carlos Correa (DK: $4,400 FD: $3,000): *DISCLAIMER* The viable options at SS today are VERY limited which is why I’m recommending Correa here. He will be highly owned, but I think it’s the right move today in a smaller slate. He’s surpassed any challenges that await him throughout his young professional career and I believe he will continue to do so.
Turn Two: Jhonny Peralta (DK: $4,200 FD: $3,800)
Kelly Johnson (DK: $2,900 FD: $2,700): Johnson faces off vs. RHP stud Jacob deGrom but his price reflects it. If you’re looking to save at one of the OF spots today, Johnson is your guy–especially on DK. He’s sporting a .253 ISO vs. RHP thus far and while we expect that to eventually regress, try to ride it while you can. I love Kelly at his price today and he should be in a spot in the lineup that will increase his upside.
Andrew McCutchen: (DK: $5,200 FD: $4,800): Cutch’s price and 0/5 last night will certainly drive many players away from him today and it’s a perfect time to throw him in one of your GPP lineups. He’s always enjoyed hitting at PNC in his career, posting a .312 / .399 / .514 line. Sean O’ Sullivan is no match for the reigning NL MVP and I’m calling a Cutch dong today. Who’s with me?!
Turn Two: Lorenzo Cain (DK: $3,800 FD: $2,500), Eddie Rosario (DK: $3,200 FD: $2,600)
Have a great weekend and be on the lookout for our NASCAR article coming late tonight/early tomorrow AM.
