The MLB DFS Strategy offers up some Pitchers and stacks to use for your FanDuel and DraftKings GPP lineups tonight. Some mid to high range pitching options means that ownership should be pretty spread out. Lets get into the best players to target tonight.
Carlos Carrasco, Cleveland Indians (FD $9100, DK $10,200) – Carrasco has struck out 20 batters over his last 20.1 innings (3 starts) and has gone 2-1 over that stretch. Carrasco faced this same Rays team 2 weeks ago and managed to strike out 5 over 6.2 innings but he did give up 10 hits and 3 runs while allowing 2 home runs. I look for him to bounce back a little bit from that loss and look to keep this Rays offense silent.
Jon Lester, Chicago Cubs (FD $8600, DK $10,300) – Lester gave up 4 runs over 4 innings in his last start, but in his 2 previous starts allowed just 2 runs in 13.1 innings and he gets to take on a struggling offensive team in the New York Mets. The Mets’ three best (arguably) hitters are left handed so he should be able to neutralize the danger that he may run into in this one.
John Lackey, St Louis Cardinals (FD $8700, DK $9300) – As long as the rain does not interfere I think Lackey will be the most popular choice tonight as he is the cheapest of the 3 studs listed here and gets to take on a less than potent Chicago White Sox lineup. He has given up just 5 runs over his last 22 innings and has been extremely consistent throughout 2015. I like his chances at the W tonight while pitching at home.
Chris Heston, San Francisco Giants (FD $7600, DK $6500) – Heston sees a DK price drop of $1K after going 7 innings and allowing just 2 runs en route to a W in his last start and he is always under valued it seems. He has won 2 of his 3 starts since his no hitter and gets to battle the Stanton-Less Marlins tonight. Sign me up!
Doug Fister, Washington Nationals (FD $6900, DK $6600) – There just is nothing sexy about Doug Fister and I am sure he will be overlooked tonight which I think is a mistake. His last start was against the same Braves team he faces tonight and he went 7 shutout innings with 4 strikeouts in that last start and I think he has a night similar to that this evening and should be in a great spot for a win.
Wei-Yin Chen, Baltimore Orioles (FD $7800, DK $8200) – Chen gave up just 6 runs in his June starts while striking out 28 batters and allowing just 23 hits in 25.1 June innings en route to a 2-0 record. Chen has a career ERA against the Rangers of 1.92 which tells us that he loves facing them and is able to shut them down. Andrus and Choo are a combined 8 for 15 against Chen, while the rest of the roster is just 6 for 56.
A.J. Burnett, Pittsburgh Pirates (FD $9100, DK $9800) – Burnett has given up just 5 earned over his last 4 starts but has managed to go 0-2 in those starts and he draws a tough match-up tonight against the Tigers. I think Burnett makes the perfect GPP play as he does have an ERA of just 2.01 on the season and could certainly shut down the dangerous Tigers offense.
Arizona Diamondbacks: A.J. Pollock (FD $3800, DK $4800), Paul Goldschmidt (FD $5400, DK $5900), Yasmany Tomas (FD $3400, DK $4100), Wellington Castillo (FD $3100, DK $3400) – The D’Backs get to take on Brett Anderson of the Dodgers tonight and we know that they love to mash against left handed pitching. This game is also at hitter friendly Chase Field. I would include Aaron Hill, David Peralta and even Nick Ahmed tonight.
Chicago Cubs: Dexter Fowler (FD $2900, DK $4100), Kris Bryant (FD $3500, DK $4100), Anthony Rizzo (FD $4100, DK $4600), Chris Coghlan (FD $2900, DK $3100) – I love the Cubs lineup against Colon tonight as these guys can destroy a fastball and rely on the long ball to do a lot of work as they have been slumping of late. I think tonight is the night they break out and I definitely would sneak in Castro and really wish Montero would be in the lineup, however Ross will start behind the plate.
Baltimore Orioles: Manny Machado (FD $4200, DK $4500), Adam Jones (FD $3200, DK $4900), Chris Davis (FD $3300, DK $4200) – I think the Orioles will be the most popular stack of the night as Nick Martinez has been pretty bad recently and I would certainly include Paredes, Hardy and even Parmalee in this one. I do wish Wieter would be in the lineup however it looks like he is getting the night off.
Milwaukee Brewers: Jonathan Lucroy (FD $3000, DK $3600), Ryan Braun (FD $4800, DK $4900), Carlos Gomez (FD $4100, DK $4700) – I think the Brewers are a sneaky option tonight against a struggling Harang. I would include Lind, Parra and maybe even Scooter Gennett depending on the lineup for the Brewers. Harang has given up 4+ runs in 5 straight starts.
Going to be an interesting night as there does not appear to be a ton of weather worry outside of St Louis. I think a Yankees stack may be a little sneaky against the Angels and I would not be afraid to use some right handed Dodger bats against Ray and the D’Backs. I am also intrigued by the Giants bats as they get to take on Dan Haren, who can certainly give up a fair number of bombs on any given night.
