Clayton Kershaw, Los Angeles Dodgers (FD $12,300, DK $13,100) – If you’ve been living under a rock, you STILL should know that Kershaw is the best pitcher on the planet and will always be a number 1 option on any night he takes the mound. The Mets offense has been pretty terrible lately, so Kershaw is in a GREAT spot.
Masahiro Tanaka, New York Yankees (FD $9400, DK $10,200) – Tanaka has really struggled his last 2 times out and that certainly has my attention as we all know he is pitching with an elbow issue. He has given up 6 home runs in his last 2 starts and that does not bode well pitching in Yankee stadium. I think Tanaka makes an interesting GPP play tonight because of his recent performances plus the fact he faces off against Chris Archer.
Chris Archer, Tampa Bay Rays (FD $10,600, DK $10,100) – The last time Archer faced off with the Rays he went 7 innings and struck out 8 hitters, while giving up just 2 runs and getting the no-decision. I think Archer makes an interesting play tonight in Yankee stadium as he and the Rays are underdogs. Archer is coming off of a 10 K in 6 inning performance in which he did give up 5 runs.
Justin Masterson, Boston Red Sox (FD $6500, DK $5100) – Masterson is coming off of a long DL stint and managed to throw 5 innings while giving up an unearned run and striking out 6 en route to a Win. I know the Astros are a very dangerous offense but they also strike out a ton and just lost one of their most dangerous hitters in George Springer.
Chase Anderson, Arizona Diamondbacks (FD $6200, DK $5300) – I like Anderson as a cheap SP2 as he generally manages to go pretty deep into games thanks to his groundball rate and he can sneak in a handful of strikeouts. I like his offense to back him up quite a bit tonight as they get to tee off on Kyle Kendrick. Anderson certainly has some blowup potential as the Rockies offense can get hot quickly.
Jesse Chavez, Oakland Athletics (FD $8700, DK $7000) – I generally list Chavez as a Value play but tonight he finds himself in the GPP plays as he has been a bit off over his last couple of starts but certainly is capable of going off against a team like the Mariners who can struggle quite a bit at times.
Ubaldo Jimenez, Baltimore Orioles (FD $8400, DK $7500) – Ubaldo is close to being in my stud category for tonight as he gets to face a weak White Sox lineup and he is coming off of 8 shutout innings with 7 strike outs. Ubaldo is generally somebody I can never get right and it becomes very frustrating as he can have dominant performances but he is also capable of blowing up and coming out after 3 innings.
Baltimore Orioles: Manny Machado (FD $4200, DK $4800), Jimmy Paredes (FD $3400, DK $4300), Adam Jones (FD $3200, DK $4400), Chris Davis (FD $3600, DK $4700) – The Orioles get to take their hacks against the terrible John Danks and they are capable of just destroying left handed pitching. I would pay attention to the lineup as I think guys like Hardy, Reimold, Joseph and Pearce are options tonight. My one big worry is Adam Jones is a career 1 for 30 against Danks.
Arizona Diamondbacks: A.J. Pollock (FD $3700, DK $4500), David Peralta (FD $3900, DK $4200), Paul Goldschmidt (FD $5200, DK $6000), Yasmany Tomas (FD $3300, DK $4200) – I feel like I have written about the D’Backs every day this week. They just have had some crazy good match-ups and tonight is no different as they get to take on Kyle Kendrick at home. Kendrick gives it up to everybody and tonight should be no different. I would feel comfortable stacking pretty much the whole lineup.
Boston Red Sox: Mookie Betts (FD $3700, DK $4600), David Ortiz (FD $2900, DK $4300), Hanley Ramirez (FD $3700, DK $3700) – The Red Sox really blew up last night and I think they continue their offense tonight against Dan Straily. Straily is making his 2015 debut and has struggled every time he has had an extended look in the majors. I think tonight the BoSox come out and put up 8+ runs to back Masterson.
Kansas City Royals: Alcides Escobar (FD $2400, DK $3900), Mike Moustakas (FD $2600, DK $4000), Lorenzo Cain (FD $3300, DK $4600) – I think the Royals are an under the radar stack against the lefty in Tommy Milone tonight. The Royals as a singular team do not intrigue me much but when you stack their top 4-6 hitters, it makes it very intriguing as they tend to string a bunch of hits together. I like Morales a bit more than Hosmer at first and I think Perez is an interesting Catcher option.
I think there are a couple of other offenses I would look to get some bats from as the Brewers are intriguing to me as they took Lorenzen deep 3 times earlier this season and the Braves are projected to score as many runs as the Tigers tonight so their offense has to come from somewhere. I like the left handed bats from the Cardinals and the Indians tonight. Some other pitchers that I think are GPP worthy might be Teheran, Wacha, Richards and even Fiers.
