David Price, Detroit Tigers (FD $11,400, DK $12,800) – The Tigers are just a -112 road favorite in this game and I think that number is a little low even though Odorizzi is a strong starting opponent for David Price. Price has been spectacular this year and his ERA has gone down each month of the season. The Rays generally hit lefties fairly well, however this isn’t just a regular lefty. Price has been dominant against right handed hitters so far in 2015 and I look for that to continue tonight as he gets to pitch in Tampa Bay, where he had some of his best seasons.
Jose Fernandez, Miami Marlins (FD $10,700, DK $12,700) – Fernandez has dominated the Nationals in his young career as they Nats roster has just 7 hits (a .132 average) against him. He and the Marlins are a -111 favorite in this game and it has an over/under of just 6.5 runs as the Nationals are running Jordan Zimmermann out to the hill. The Nationals are possibly getting Werth and Ryan Zimmerman back tonight as well, which would make the Nats lineup a little more difficult.
Noah Syndergaard, New York Mets (FD $8800, DK $10,700) – Syndergaard gets to face the San Diego Padres, who lit him up for 7 runs in 4 innings earlier this season. That start had some weirdness to it as he gave up 10 hits in those 4 innings to go along with those 7 runs, but he also struck out 10 hitters in those 4 innings. He has given up just 5 runs in 26 July innings so far and has been filthy with 29 strike outs in those innings.
Jordan Zimmermann, Washington Nationals (FD $8600, DK $7700) – Zimmermann will be making his third start in 2015 against the Marlins after allowing just 3 earned runs in 13 innings against them. He has yet to walk a Marlin this season and has 8 strike outs against them. The Marlins roster has hit just .234 against them in their careers (across 209 at bats). Zimmermann and the Nats are a small road underdog as the Marlins are running out Jose Fernandez, who has never lost at home in his MLB career.
Jeff Samardzija, Chicago White Sox (FD $8900, DK $8500) – Samardzija has been dominant so far in July as he has thrown 31.2 innings and allowed just 6 runs while allowing just 18 hits. His strikeout numbers have been down as he has just 18 during July, however he is getting outs and that is whats important. The White Sox team has been on a roll of late and are putting up runs in bunches as they face the Red Sox tonight. Somehow the White Sox are an underdog tonight as the Red Sox are a -116 favorite.
Julio Teheran, Atlanta Braves (FD $8300, DK $7500) – I really like Teheran tonight even though he has really struggled on the road so far in 2015. He is a sizable underdog in this game as the Orioles are sitting at -183 as of right now. Teheran’s road ERA is 6.95 on the season, which is one of the worst in all of baseball. However, his July ERA is sitting at 2.81 and he has 28 strikeouts in 25.2 innings.
Jaime Garcia, St Louis Cardinals (FD $8200, DK $9600) – Garcia finds him in my GPP section as he is coming off of yet another DL stint. He is a -172 home favorite against the Reds tonight and he generally goes very under owned. His FD price makes him a value play, his DK price is a bit high which will lower his ownership % even more. I can see more people being on Reds bats in this one as you should expect Frazier and Byrd to be somewhat popular vs the lefty. He has held right handed batters to an average of .197 so far in 2015.
Toronto Blue Jays: Josh Donaldson (FD $4700, DK $5800), Jose Bautista (FD $4400, DK $5600), Edwin Encarnacion (FD $4600, DK $4100), Russell Martin (FD $3400, DK $4200) – If only Tulo was eligible to earn points tonight (DK has announced he and Reyes will not earn any points). What a murderer’s row against left handed pitching with the addition of Tulo. Alas, with no Tulo tonight we have to “settle” for the guys above as well as Travis, Pillar, Valencia, Colabello, ok basically their entire lineup. It will be interesting to see their lineup after dealing Reyes. I would expect Travis to see the lead off spot but would not be shocked if Donaldson was moved up into it.
Chicago Cubs: Dexter Fowler (FD $2900, DK $4000), Kyle Schwarber (FD $3300, DK $3600), Kris Bryant (FD $3000, DK $4500), Anthony Rizzo (FD $3200, DK $4700) – The price on the Cubs on FD is just way too low and the Cubs are in a great spot against Flande tonight. Schwarber may not be in the lineup against the lefty and if he is out, I would look to include Soler or Castro. I can make a case for Russell as well even though he is in the 9 spot.
Colorado Rockies: Charlie Blackmon (FD $4000, DK $4700), Nolan Arenado (FD $3500, DK $5300), Carlos Gonzalez (FD $3000, DK $4400), Corey Dickerson (FD $3000, DK $3400) – The Rockies are an interesting option tonight as we do not know how they are going to perform. I can see a couple of scenarios as they just dealt Tulo away and the rest of the guys might be pretty upset and lackadaisical out on the field tonight or they could be motivated by it and the fact that Blackmon and CarGo could be the next to go. CarGo’s price is criminally low on FD and I will certainly be all over that however you can make a case to fade him as he is going to be super popular. I also like Paulsen, LeMahieu and Hundley.
Pittsburgh Pirates: Gregory Polanco (FD $2500, DK $4200), Neil Walker (FD $3100, DK $4200), Andrew McCutchen (FD $4600, DK $4900), Starling Marte (FD $3700, DK $4800) – I debated the White Sox in this spot and even though I think they are in a great spot again (they are also on fire right now), I went with a team that might be a bit under owned considering their match-up against Pelfrey. I think Kang, Alvarez and even Aramis Ramirez make solid inclusions to a stack as I think the Pirates put up 6+ runs tonight.
There are so many pitching and hitting options tonight it is tough to touch on them all. The big thing is the weather as it appears there are some rain possibilities/issues in 4 or 5 places. Some of the other pitchers that stand out in my eyes are Gray, Shields, Odorizzi, Cain, Jimenez, Anderson, Peralta, Godley and even Doubrant. You definitely need to pay attention to the trade talks as well since there are a number of pitchers on the slate tonight that have been rumored to be on the move and may get scratched, along with some hitters as well. As I said above, make sure to not get too excited about Tulo and Reyes as DK has announced that they will NOT earn any points tonight should they be in the lineup for their new teams. I think the Twins, White Sox, Yankees, Rangers, Astros and Royals all have some interesting bats for tonight’s slate as they have positive match-ups.
